Text encoding (usually automatic)

Encoding tells us how to read names and other CSV text. Leave Automatic selected unless accented names or characters look wrong. Select the original export encoding and update preview to check the result.

CSV text encoding

Automatic supports Unicode and older Western Excel CSV exports, including Latin-1 spacing. If names look incorrect, select the original export encoding and update the preview. This choice applies only to CSV; XLSX handles text internally. Your original file is not changed.
